Electing Egomaniacs: The Charlie Rangel story

As Rep. Charlie Rangel faces ethics charges, Democratic politicians feted him at his 80th Birthday party in New York City.

"I know a few people couldn't be here tonight because, as they tell it, either they had to get a haircut unexpectedly or they were sure that they'd have a headache. But Charlie, as you know, they were with you as long as they could be."

This from the mouth of Egomaniac in Chief Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City who changed the city charter which limited his time in office as mayor because he felt that he was entitled to be mayor of New York regardless of the fact that the citizens of New York imposed term limits on the mayor.

Mayor Bloomberg and the politicians present including Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand remind us that we love our country; it’s our government we don’t trust.

Snookering: “a-post-racial” analysis

After casting Shirley Sherrod as a racist and firing her from her post at The USDA, the administration to no one’s surprise, issued an apology and offered to reemploy and promote Ms. Sherrod.

According to Secretary Vilsack, “This is a good woman, she’s been put through hell and I could have and should have done a better job.”

Translation: I acted foolishly.

Whitehouse spokesman Roberts Gibbs apologized "for the entire administration" and admitted that officials did not know all the facts when she was fired.

Translation: We acted foolishly.

Steele Trap

At a recent fundraising event, RNC Chairman Michael Steele opened mic and once again, inserted his foot.

He said, the war in Afghanistan "was a war of Obama's choosing" that America had not "actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in." It does not matter whether one agrees with him or not, the fact remains that Steele has become the Joe Biden of the Republican Party.

First, Steele’s comments are an unabashed insult to the troops who, unlike Steele are fighting for their lives and democracy. Meanwhile back in the comfort of a fundraiser Steele insults them.

The NAACP, the Whitehouse and trafficking in race

Shirley Sherrod, a former official at the USDA” resigned” her post after a video on YouTube revealed comments she made admitting that she once withheld help from a white farmer because of his race.

Ms. Sherrod who is black also said in the same video that she learned the lesson from this experience that the issue is poverty not race. She said, “And I went on to work with many more white farmers," she said. "The story helped me realize that race is not the issue, it's about the people who have and the people who don't."

After the video surfaced, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack fired Sherrod. (O.k., he asked her to resign).
